Area Scout troops participate in Antietam Creek cleanup

December 05, 2009

Service projects and all aspects of scouting go hand in hand. In September, Boy Scouts joined forces with the Antietam Creek Watershed Alliance to clean trash and other items from Antietam Creek.

Boy Scouts from Troop 14 from Smithsburg, Troop 62 from Chewsville and Troop 108 from Leitersburg assisted volunteers from the Washington County area.

The Antietam Creek Watershed Alliance (ACWA) is an organization comprised of citizens concerned for the local watershed. The mission is to protect and promote Antietam Creek through education, preservation and hands-on projects. The group continues to maintain updated data on the state of the watershed and other opportunities to improve its health for everyone's benefit.

The Mason-Dixon Council serves the youth in Washington County and Franklin and Fulton counties in Pennsylvania.
