Rebels open season with overtime win

SYKESVILLE, Md. -- South Hagerstown rallied with a 3-point barrage to force overtime, then went on to defeat Century 59-58 in the season opener for both teams Friday night.

Ahmad Fields hit a pair of 3-pointers, including one that tied the game at 51 with less than one minute remaining in regulation.

The Rebels jumped to a six-point lead in overtime before the Knights scored on a 4-point play. Andre Pierre hit a pair of free throws for a 59-55 lead and Century scored on a 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Pierre led the Rebels with 15 points and added five assists. Fields had 11 points along with six rebounds and six assists.

Williamsport 49, North Carroll 46

HAMPSTEAD, Md. -- Casey McKenrick scored five of his 11 points in the final minute to help Williamsport hold off North Carroll in the season opener for both teams.

After North Carroll cut the Williamsport lead to two, McKenrick converted a 3-point play, then iced the game later with two free throws.

Stephen Christy led the Wildcats with 14 points and six rebounds. Williamsport hit 20 of 37 from the floor for 54 percent.

BOONSBORO -- Greg Bonner had 10 points, while Chad Nazelrod and Mike Long each added nine as Manchester Valley won its first varsity basketball game, edging Boonsboro.

The Warriors (0-1) trailed by three with 10 seconds remaining, and missed a 3-pointer that would have tied the game. They did score on a putback of an offensive rebound to cut the final deficit to one.

Dylan Eavey and Nate Bonner each had 10 points for the Warriors. Justin Jardeleza and Haquan Grant each had seven rebounds and Lonnell Tinsley added six.
