WILLIAMSPORT, Md. -- Dorothy Andrews (Jones) Kenner Carlisle, 105, of Homewood at Williamsport, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009, at Coffman Nursing Home in Hagerstown.

Born Sept. 6, 1904, in Somerville, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Rowe and Lillian Gertrude (Andrews) Jones.

She was a member of Christ's Reformed Church in Hagerstown.

Dorothy attended Jackson College and was a graduate of Chandler Secretarial College in Boston. She worked as a legal secretary for the U.S. Supreme Court, in Washington, D.C. During her first marriage, she was co-owner of a beverage company.


She was the founder of the Washington County Commission on Aging; a lifetime member of the Women's Club, in Hagerstown, Chapter O.E.S.; the past president of the hospital auxiliary at Washington County Hospital, Homewood auxiliary and Dry Run Homemakers Club. She was a former member of the Business and Professional Women's Club in Hagerstown.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy was also preceded in death by her first husband, Edwin A. "Gus" Kenner, who died in 1949 and her second husband, Ned R. Carlisle, who died in 1995.

She is survived by two stepsons, Charles M. Carlisle of Jacksonville, N.C., John A. Carlisle of Clear Spring, Md.; three stepgrandchildren; nine stepgreat-grandchildren; stepnieces and nephews; stepgreat-nieces and stepgreat-nephews; and stepgreat-great-nieces and nephews

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009, at Homewood Retirement Center Community Building, Dining Room 1, 16505 Virginia Ave., Williamsport, with the Rev. Joyce Carlisle officiating.

Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery and held at the convenience of the family.
