Christmas party set for young children

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - A Christmas Party for children from pre-school to third grade will be at 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, at the Grove Family Library.

The event is being sponsored by the Friends of the Grove Family Library and will feature a card making activity, holiday films, stories and refreshments.

"Benjamin Franklin" and Santa Claus will read stories and distribute gifts to the children.

The library is located at 101 Ragged Edge Road.

Young Artist's Competition seeks students for audition

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Shippensburg Band announces its first Young Artist's Competition for students of band instruments in grades 6 through 12.


To be eligible, youth must be 18 years old or younger and attending school in Washington County, or the Pennsylvania counties of Adams, Cumberland, Franklin, Fulton or Perry.

Students of band instruments in grades 6 to 8 will prepare one movement of a serious work for their instrument lasting about four minutes.

Band students in grades 9 through 12 will also prepare one movement that lasts about five minutes.

These movements must have readily available band accompaniments.

Piano, string and voice students are not eligible for this competition.

To apply, the student must complete an audition application, pay a $10 application fee and submit a tape of the audition and a copy of the score by Jan. 1, 2010.
