WVU-Hospitals offering discounted seasonal flu vaccine clinic

December 03, 2009

SPRING MILLS, W.Va. -- Seasonal flu vaccine will offered to young children for a discounted fee of $10 on Dec. 11 from 1 to 5 p.m. at West Virginia University Hospitals-East Spring Mills Medical Center, according to a news release.

Children 3 years old and younger are eligible, but must be registered in advance by calling the medical center at 304-820-1031.

"We know that many people, including children, have been impacted by the flu this year and we wanted to help," said Dr. Vineet Sood, family medicine physician at Spring Mills Medical Center in the announcement.

"Given that we were able to obtain extra doses of the seasonal flu vaccine, we decided to hold a flu vaccine clinic open to all children 3 and under, not just our patients."

The discounted fee is payable by check, credit card or cash, but insurance cannot be accepted with the special community service rate.

Appointments are currently being scheduled and are required for this clinic, given the limited number of flu vaccine doses available, according to the announcement.

Offered as a community service of WVUH-East and Spring Mills Medical Center, spokesperson Teresa E. McCabe said in the announcement that a discounted blood test screening also will be offered early next year.
