Boonsboro Elementary holds recycling challenge

December 02, 2009

Last school year, Annie Anders challenged her enrichment students at Boonsboro Elementary School to take on a recycling project coordinated by Harvey Hoch, recycling program coordinator for Washington County.

County schools were given a challenge to collect as many old phone books as they could from their community. Boonsboro Elementary students collected the third highest number of books in the county (883) behind Clear Spring Middle (1,012) and Hancock Elementary (1,520).

Boonsboro Elementary also placed sixth with a telephone book to student ratio of 1.42 to 1. Certificates and cash prizes were provided by project sponsor Tom Grosh of Grosh's Lawn Service in Clear Spring. The school was awarded a certificate and a $25 check to be put toward future green projects.
