December 02, 2009

FREDERICK, Md. -- A man looking at two diamond rings Wednesday afternoon valued at $18,900 at a Zales jewelry store in FSK Mall grabbed the rings from a store employee and fled, according to Maryland State Police.

The man entered the store at 12:16 p.m. and asked to look at two diamond rings, according to a news release.

The man asked if he could compare the rings side by side to see the difference between the two, the release said.

After the employee put the rings on her thumb, the man reached across a counter and grabbed them, the release said.

Troopers found the description of the man to match that of a man who stole several pieces of jewelry from a Zales store in Columbia, Md., earlier in the day, state police said.

The man is described as black, in his early to mid-20s, 5 feet 9 inches tall and 150 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black-and-white referee-style shirt, black pants, and white and blue tennis shoes.

Anyone with information about the identity of the man may contact Trooper 1st Class Jeremy Hite at 301-600-4151.
