ARTEMAS, Pa. - James Elmer Rice, 77, of 507 Creek Road, Artemas, Pa., and formerly of Smithsburg, Md., passed away Monday, Nov. 30, 2009, at the Western Maryland HS-RMC, Cumberland, Md.
Born Tuesday, March 15, 1932, in Middletown, Md., he was the son of the late Raymond C. Rice and the late Katherine E. Sigler Rice.
He was employed at the B&O Railroad and later at Mack Truck Inc., retiring after 30 years of service.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army.
He was a member of Morris Frock American Legion Post 42, NRA and UAW Local 171.
Jim was also an avid hunter and enjoyed spending time outdoors.
He is survived by two daughters, Diana Lynn Redinger of Hagerstown and Kathleen Marie Rice of Hagerstown; one son, James Michael Rice of Smithsburg; a sister, Audrey Kathleen Younkins of Middletown; six grandchildren, Michelle Redinger of Stewartstown, Pa., Annette Redinger of Stewartstown, Earl McKinley Raymond Redinger, Rhonda Ann Crawford of Cumberland, Delores Lynn Swanger of Cumberland and James Michael Rice II of Hagerstown; two nephews, Richard Michael Younkins of Gaithersburg, Md., and Dennis Charles Younkins of Thurmont, Md.; and three great-grandsons.
