WARFORDSBURG, Pa. - Franklyn Ira Geist Sr., age 87, of Cove Run Road, died Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009, at the Fulton County Medical Center in McConnellsburg, Pa.

Born July 26, 1922, in Kulpmont, Pa., he was the son of the late John L. and Millie Brown Geist, and the husband of the late Gladys Emmaline Snyder Geist, who died July 20, 1994.

He was a veteran of World War II and Korea, serving in the U.S. Army Air Force.

He was a retired superintendent of schools for the Southern Fulton School District, Warfordsburg.

He was a member of the National Principal Association.

He was a member of the Pennsylvania School Superintendent Association.

He was a member of Warfordsburg Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by four sons, John Geist of Hancock, Md., Franklyn Geist Jr. of York Springs, Pa., Greg Geist of Danville, Pa., and Glenn Geist of Warfordsburg; one sister, Jean Wysocki of Danville; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by one brother, Lloyd Geist; and two sisters, Chloe Becker and Anna Barreck.

A service will be held Friday, Dec. 4, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Warfordsburg Presbyterian Church. Pastor Edward Blank will officiate. Burial with military graveside honors by the Tri-State Honor Guard will be in the church cemetery.

There will be a viewing at the Warfordsburg Presbyterian Faith Center on Thursday from 3 to 4:30 p.m., and the family will be present to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at the center.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Warfordsburg Presbyterian Faith Center, c/o Dianna Kincaid, 6251 Thompson Road, Needmore, PA 17238.
