REISTERSTOWN, Md. - Dwight O. Dingle, 63, of Reisterstown, longtime show host of WTTR Radio and the Voice of Carroll County, Md., died Thursday, Nov. 26, 2009, at his residence.

Born Nov. 21, 1946, in Waynesboro, Pa., he was the son of Betty Dingle of Cascade and the late Joseph H. Dingle. He was the husband of Sue Putnam Dingle, his wife of 40 years.

Dwight was the station manager and morning show host of WTTR Radio, where he worked for 33 years, both part and full time.


He graduated from Towson University and taught elementary school in Baltimore County, Md., for 14 years. His first career in education was teaching fourth and fifth grades at Timber Grove Elementary School.

He was involved with numerous organizations that benefited the Carroll County community. He was past president of the Westminster (Md.) Rotary Club and Carroll County Chamber of Commerce. He was a past chairperson of the Business and Education Committee of the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce and initiated the Teacher of the Year award. He has been honored with numerous awards recognizing his commitment to the Carroll community, including the Elks Club Citizen of the Year and was the 2007 inductee to the Carroll County Sports Hall of Fame.

Truly the voice of sports in Carroll County since 1974, Dwight has broadcast several hundred play-by-play games, including high school, college, youth and semi-pro sports. Teams covered included Carroll County High School sports, McDaniel College sports, Mount St. Mary's College basketball, American Legion baseball, Babe Ruth baseball and Carroll County Chargers football. In addition, he has broadcast the NCAA Division II Basketball Final Four, the NCAA Division III football and basketball playoffs and the Babe Ruth Baseball Regional World Series.

Dwight created, coordinated and hosted the WTTR Athlete of the Week Program in 1982, which has recognized more than 1,200 of the county's high school athletes. WTTR has won dozens of awards for all aspects of programming, including 10 straight years as Maryland's Outstanding Station for Year Round Local Sports.

He had recently retired as the station manager and morning show host of WTTR Radio and was honored by the Carroll County Commissioners on Nov. 20, 2009, with Dwight Dingle Day in Carroll County for his years of dedication and service to Carroll County.

Surviving, in addition to his mother and wife, are son and daughter-in-law, Ryan and Leitha Dingle of Manchester, Md.; and granddaughters, Carlie, Kirsten and Kayla.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. John Catholic Church, 43 Monroe St., Westminster, with Msgr. Arthur Valenzano as celebrant. Interment will be private.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster.

Memorial contributions may be made to establish a scholarship in his name to Carroll Community College, 1601 Washington Road, Westminster, MD 21157.
