WOLFSVILLE, Md. - James Richard "Dick" "Buzzy" Frey, 72, of Wolfsville, Md., died Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009, at Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown.

Buzzy was born Aug. 19, 1937, in Myersville, Md., and was the son of the late James Peter and Grace Irene Garnand Frey.

Buzzy graduated from Middletown (Md.) High School in 1955. He then entered the U.S. Army, serving as a military policeman assigned to the 536th Military Police Co. in Germany. While serving overseas, he met his future wife, Christa Kaczmerec, who preceded him in death on Aug. 20, 2007. He was honorably discharged from the military and entered the Maryland State Police Academy. Upon graduation, Buzzy served as a uniformed trooper in Maryland's western counties. Buzzy was selected as one of the first Mobile Crime Scene Lab Investigators, where he served until his retirement from the Maryland State Police in 1980.


In 1984, Buzzy was co-founder of the Beaver Creek Antique Market, which is one of the largest and most recognized antique markets on the East Coast.

Buzzy is survived by two sons, James Peter Frey and his wife, Kris, of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Mitch Frey of Swanton, Md.; one brother, Ronald Frey and his wife, Sharon, of Hagerstown; three grandsons, James Frey, Bradley Frey and Russell Frey, all of Wyoming; and one granddaughter, Alicia Nicole of Maryland.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Salem United Methodist Church, 12477 Wolfsville Road, Myersville, with Pastor Randall Reid officiating.

Burial will be in Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery, Wolfsville.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, Dec. 1, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Ricketts Funeral Home, Myersville. For the convenience of family and friends, the funeral home will open Tuesday beginning at 9 a.m. for visitation.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Salem United Methodist Cemetery Fund, 12477 Wolfsville Road, Myersville, MD 21773.
