November 28, 2009

A 31-year-old Maryland Correctional Institution inmate who was taken to Washington County Hospital after he was stabbed in the yard Friday night is listed in stable condition, Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services spokesman Mark Vernarelli said Saturday afternoon.

Vernarelli said the inmate was stabbed several times, but the injuries were not life-threatening.

He said prison officials are interviewing possible suspects and potential witnesses.

The inmate is from Baltimore and is serving time for robbery and kidnapping, Vernarelli said.
