Hose named D'backs pitcher of the year

November 27, 2009

BASEBALL

T.J. Hose was selected as the Arizona Diamondbacks' organizational pitcher of the year on Friday by MLB.com.

The announcement was made Friday morning on the Minor League Baseball Web site (www.milb.com).

Hose, a North Hagerstown graduate, went from being a 36th-round selection in the 2008 amateur draft to round himself into a prospect for the Diamondbacks.

Hose, who was a starter at East Carolina, became a reliever this season when there wasn't enough room in the starting rotation at Single-A South Bend in the Midwest League. He became the Silver Hawks' setup man and closer and a league all-star. He was promoted to Visalia in the Single-A California League in the second half of the season.

Hose had a combined 12 saves and 2.11 ERA in 59 2/3 innings, while striking out 70 and walking just 17. He stuck out 27 and walked just five in 22 2/3 innings at Visalia.
