Santa welcomes families

FREDERICK, Md. -- The Way Off Broadway Dinner Theatre and Children's Theatre will hold its annual Breakfast with Santa (and Mrs. Claus) in three sittings.

Doors open at 8 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, and Sunday, Dec. 20; and at 9 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 23, at the theater in Willowtree Plaza, 5 Willowdale Drive.

Dodgeball season begins

FREDERICK, Md. --  Dodgeball is the kick-off program to the City Adult Sport and Social League.

The program, for ages 21 and older, starts between 8 and 10 p.m. Tuesday or Thursday nights, depending on division, at William Talley Recreation Center.

The regular season begins Tuesday, Jan. 12, and continues through March. A playoff tournament will follow the

regular season.

The cost is $55 for residents of Frederick city and $65 for nonresidents. An additional mandatory fee of $10 is required for a T-shirt to be paid at mandatory coaches' meeting, which is 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, at William Talley Recreation Center.


Registration deadline is Tuesday, Dec. 15. Individual registration fees must be paid in full by or before Dec. 15.

Library hosts movies and a visit from Santa

The Washington County Free Library Children's Department will celebrate the season by offering holiday movies with a craft on the first three Saturdays in December. 

The programs will begin at 11 a.m. in the library's meeting room.

o On Dec. 5, children can come into the Central library and make a snowman craft and watch the animated classic, "Frosty the Snowman." 

o On Dec. 12, the film "Animal Holiday" will be featured.  Kids are invited to watch the film and make a Christmas present for their backyard birds. 

o On Dec. 19, Jim Henson's classic film, "The Christmas Toy" will be featured and children will have the opportunity to make a reindeer hand puppet. 

Santa will come to the library from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 17. Children's Librarian Jeff Ridgeway will be reading holiday bedtime stories while Santa visits with the kids. Parents can bring a camera and photograph their children with Santa.
