Charles Allen Berdell Schildtknecht, 78, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away, Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009, at his home.

Born Tuesday, March 10, 1931, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Allen Schildtknecht and the late Violet South Schildtknecht. He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma K. Schildtknecht, in 2004.

He was employed with Beaver Mechanical, retiring in 1996 after more than 30 years.

He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Clear Spring.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War. He was a member of the Morris Frock American Legion Post 42, Wilson Ruritan Club, B.P.O. Elks 378, and the Eagles Club Inc. of Waynesboro, Pa.

He is survived by his daughter, Ann L. Moore and husband, Brian, of Hagerstown; one son, Dennis L. Ommert and wife, Mary Ann; five grandchildren, Melissa Mishler of Hagerstown, Brett Moore of Hagerstown, William Ommert, Dennis Ommert, and Sharie Ommert; three great-grandchildren, Calypso Moore, Molly Mishler, and Bryce Mishler; a grandson-in-law, Randy Mishler; sister-in-law, Betty Schildtknecht of Hagerstown; and nephew, Allen Schildtknecht of Greencastle, Pa.


He was preceded in death by sisters, Kleora Schildtknecht, Thelma Orchid and Posey Schildtknecht and brother, Millard Schildtknecht.

Services will be held Monday, Nov. 30, 2009, at 11 a.m., at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 14106 National Pike, Clear Spring, Md., with the Rev. W. Allen Reed officiating.

Family will receive friends at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, from 5 to 8 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 29.

Interment will be in the St. Paul's Cemetery, Clear Spring.
