November 26, 2009

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- Two people were injured early Thursday in a four-vehicle crash on northbound Interstate 81 near the Tabler Station Road exit south of Martinsburg, the Berkeley County Sheriff's Department said in a news release.

Deputies received a call at about 3:32 a.m. that a sport utility vehicle was traveling the wrong way in the northbound lane near the 11 mile marker, the department said. While en route to the area, deputies were advised that the SUV was involved in an accident and was on its top in the median near mile marker eight, the Tabler Station Road exit, deputies said.

Another vehicle was found off the east side of the road, deputies said.

Emergency medical personnel extracted the drivers from both vehicles and both were taken to City Hospital in Martinsburg, deputies said.

Two other vehicles also were involved and sustained minor damage, deputies said.

Interstate 81 northbound was closed for about two and a half hours.
