MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Stephen Craig Derflinger, 45, died Monday, Oct. 19, 2009, at his home in Martinsburg. He was born Oct. 23, 1963, in Berkeley County, and was a lifelong resident, the son of the late Sally M. Derflinger.

Steve graduated from Shepherd College with a degree in electronics technology and was employed as a maintenance technician for 20 years with WHAG-TV (NBC25) in Hagerstown, Md. While his work was "behind the scenes," his skills kept the complex electrical systems in top working order. He was also instrumental in providing technical assistance on many remote broadcasts. Steve kept up to date on the advancement and rapid changes in digital transmission technologies. His ability to identify electronics issues and quickly provide a solution was highly valued by his co-workers. He was considered a friend and trusted colleague by all who worked with him.

Steve is survived by one brother, Gary Derflinger of Hedgesville, W.Va.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Dec. 2, at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg, W.Va. The Rev. Mr. Bronson Staley will officiate. Burial will be held privately at Green Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Steve's name to the Grove Center, 235 S. Water St., Martinsburg, WV 25401.
