Turkey Trot run Thanksgiving Day to benefit HCC athletics

Hagerstown Community College men's and women's track and field teams and the women's softball team are sponsoring the Turkey Trot, a 5K run or walk for those of all ages and a Mashed Potato Race for those 3 to 4 years old.

The event will be Thanksgiving morning. Registration packet pick-up and race-day registration will be from 7:45 to 8:45 a.m. The 5K race will begin at 9 a.m. The Mashed Potato Race will begin at 10 a.m.

The race costs $25 on the day of the race. The first 500 registrants will get a T-shirt. The children's race costs $10.

Turkeys will be awarded to the overall male and female champions, as well as each male and female winner in each age group. Grand prizes, such as University of Maryland men's basketball tickets and tickets for the Redskins vs. Saints game will be drawn.

Participants are asked to bring a donation for Food Resources Inc. All food collected will be donated to needy families in the community. A goal of one ton of food has been set.

All proceeds benefit the HCC men's and women's track and field teams and the women's softball team.
