Congestion on I-70, I-81

November 25, 2009

Traffic was moving slowly on Interstates 70 and 81 in Washington County as holiday travel got under way, according to a Maryland State Police spokeswoman.

Since at least 2:30 p.m., westbound traffic on I-70 was slow, said Sgt. S. Wallace of the Hagerstown barrack.

At times, traffic was moving 25 mph to 30 mph on westbound I-70, Wallace said.

"Sometimes, it stops," Wallace said.

Eastbound traffic seemed to be fine, Wallace said at about 6 p.m.

Northbound traffic on I-81 was congested earlier in the day, Wallace said.
