Berkeley County indoor skate park to open Dec. 2

November 24, 2009|By MATTHEW UMSTEAD

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Martinsburg-Berkeley County Park & Recreation Board's new indoor skate park facility will open on Dec. 2, board executive director R. Stephen Catlett said on Monday.

The facility will be open from 5 to 9 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, and noon to 6 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, according to the Parks & Recreation Board.

Weekend hours include blocks of time for BMX-only and skate-only use. Daily admission costs $5.

Designed primarily for BMX, the 6,100-square-foot facility at 39 Kelly Island Road is in a former cold storage warehouse owned by R.M. Roach & Sons Inc. (Roach Energy) along W.Va. 9.

The skate park was made possible by a $134,751 donation from the now defunct Beth Jacob Congregation in Martinsburg and Parks & Recreation Board officials hope the facility is self-sustainable.
