Barr files for re-election in 2010

November 23, 2009

Washington County Commissioners President John F. Barr said Monday he filed to run for re-election as a commissioner in 2010.

All five commissioners seats will be up for election in the Nov. 2, 2010 election.

"I love serving this county," Barr said, adding that with new schools, a library expansion and a museum expansion in the works, he thought this was an exciting time to be part of county government.

The Washington County Board of Elections confirmed it received Barr's filing Monday afternoon and said Barr was the only person to file to run for a county office in the 2010 election so far.

The other county commissioners said earlier this month it was too early to say whether they would run.

Candidates have until July 2010 to file.

The county commissioner elected by the most votes each election traditionally becomes president of the commissioners.
