United Way online auction begins Saturday



United Way of Washington County will team up with United Ways in Frederick, Franklin County, Pa., and the Eastern Panhandle in West Virginia, for the Tri-State Lives United Online Auction.

The online auction will run on a new Web site, www.unitedwayauctions.cmarket.com through Monday, Dec. 9. This year's auction will also include opportunities to provide for those less fortunate.

Young women may compete in pageant



The Miss Washington County/Miss Western Maryland Scholarship Foundation invites area young women between the ages of 13 and 24 to compete.

The event will be at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, at the Kepler Theater on the campus of Hagerstown Community College. Four winners will be selected, Miss Washington County 2010 and Miss Western Maryland 2010 and their teen counterparts. The winners will participate in the Miss Maryland Scholarship competition and the Miss Maryland Outstanding Teen competition in June.

Interested contestants will be required to attend an orientation from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, at the Plaza Hotel. Professional photos will be taken at 8:30. Parents are welcome to attend.

Hagerstown Suns and Toys for Tots



The Hagerstown Suns are participating in the annual Toys for Tots Campaign.

Fans are encouraged to bring new, unwrapped toys for boys and girls to the Suns Toys for Tots drop-box is in the Merchandise Store, near the front entrance to Municipal Stadium.

Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Toys for Tots drop box will remain in place through early December.
