HCC falls in Nationals

WISCONSIN DELLS, Wis. -- No. 9-seed Hagerstown Community College defeated No. 16-seed Catawba Valley (N.C.) 25-17, 25-12, 25-14 before losing to No. 13-seed North Platte (Neb.) 25-20, 22-25, 17-25, 23-25 to finish tied for 11th place at the NJCAA Division II national championships.

Julia Becker and Rebecca Morgan each had 30 kills and Morgan added 20 digs for the Hawks (32-9), who were making their seventh straight nationals appearance. Ashlyn Rebok had 40 assists and Sara Michael added 30 assists. Emma Dalton had 15 kills and Hailee Growden had 16 digs.

So. Charleston 38, Martinsburg 28

CHARLESTON, W. Va. -- Martinsburg fell behind 28-0 to No. 2 South Carleston before making a gallant comeback, only to lose in the final minutes in the fourth quarter on Friday night in the West Virginia Class AAA quarterfinals.

The Bulldogs (9-3) scored 28 unanswered points in the second half to tie the game 28-all.

South Charleston then scored 10 points in the final four minutes.
