Mail Call

November 19, 2009

"Two weeks after 9/11, the deciders said we will find the people that did this, track them down and bring them to justice. Well, he didn't do that, but now President Obama is bringing the people who did this to justice. Way to go, President Obama. Keep going, bud."

"I can't understand why the right-wingers and the talk show hosts, right-wingers, and all these Republicans want Obama to hurry up and send our troops over there to be cannon fodder, when they left it slide by for seven years and didn't even worry much about it. And all I can say, I see them setting up there with their shirt and ties on, you know, they could still join the Army yet."

- Hagerstown

"In May of 1919, at Dusseldorf, Germany, the allied forces obtained a copy of the 'red rules for revolution.' One of those that is being really and truly done right now is by encouraging government spending to excess, destroying its credibility and create fear of inflation, with rising prices and general discomfort. And another one, they would ... confiscating them and leaving the population helpless."

"I'm truly sorry about the child from Smithsburg that can't tolerate any aromas or scents that emit from perfumes and deodorants, etc., but you can't demand that the public stop wearing any deodorants or any other smells just because one child has a hard time breathing. Wait a minute, maybe I'm wrong. They stopped smoking, so maybe there is something to this. Now there won't be just a few stinky people - we will all stink."

- Hagerstown

"I agree with the parents from Smithsburg whose son has asthma attacks from strong perfumes and odors. This is a proven fact, that asthmatics have certain triggers, and one of those triggers is perfume. I agree that the school system should ban perfume use in schools. Hospitals should do the same because asthmatics are also admitted to the hospitals, and somebody coming around them with perfumes can cause an asthmatic attack."

"OK, all you Christmas people. It's not even Thanksgiving yet. Please turn off your Christmas lights. We still have a week or so to go, and then you can turn them on on Black Friday."

- Hagerstown

"I seen in the Mail Call where someone seen the biggest groundhog waddle across the road off the Dual Highway. I must have came along about 10 minutes later. It was going down Easter Boulevard on his hind legs. I think it was hitchhiking. I don't know if it caught a ride or not."

- Hagerstown

"Every night when you go to bed, ask yourself if you have done something to make someone's life just a little bit better. And also ask yourself if you have done something to make someone's life just a little bit worse. Karma is real. Beware of it. It will jump up and bite you. Maybe it's biting you right now and you're just too self-absorbed to even know it."

- Hagerstown

"I bet you the liberals in our great country here, one thing they cannot stand is NASCAR because they sing the national anthem and they also say a prayer before the start of each race. Plus they waste fuel."

- Sharpsburg

"Last week, I was misquoted. What I said was 'Be true to your teeth, and they won't be false to you.' Also, if money doesn't grow on trees, why does all these banks have branches?"

- Hagerstown

"The city of Hagerstown is large enough to have a hospital of its own within the city limits. The one on Antietam Street should be renamed Hagerstown General Hospital, and the new facility that they're building out in the country could serve the Tri-State area and be named Washington County Hospital."

- Hagerstown

"I wanted to say that I go to the post office most every day between 4 and 5 p.m., and I think it's a shame that ... service that we get."

- Washington County

"I am thankful that Rep. Bartlett could set us straight on health care. The opposition only cares about big government? I was thinking that maybe one or two of them actually cared about quality, affordable health care for our citizens. Thank you for clarifying their position, casting them all in the same mold."

- Mousetown

"How heartless of Obama and friends to put those who lost loved ones on 9/11 through a re-enactment by (bringing) those responsible to New York to stand (trial)."

- Hagerstown

"Jim Hightower, the wry Texas populist, recently referred to the 'recovery' as the 'tinkle-down' economy."

- Chambersburg, Pa.

"I'm calling regarding the president of the BOE. I just would like to let him know that as much as to walk into a shop that has herb scents, any fragrances, to be around with a person with perfume, or even where Lysol has been sprayed, is just terrible for a person with allergies and asthma. It can send you into an attack for days. And until you've seen somebody struggle with respiratory issues, shortness of breath, not being - thinking you're not gonna survive because you can't breathe because of these allergens, it's really, really truly tragic."

- Jefferson County, W.Va.

"Up on East Avenue, my home was robbed back in September of this year, and I like to make it aware that the person who robbed my home is still out there. Nothing was ever done. There was fingerprints and all left, but the police were unable to do that. I was told it's not a serious enough act. I would just like to know when the police is gonna step up and try to protect the community, maybe get some prints and all and try to catch these guys."
