Dr. Michael Horn, an anesthesiologist at Washington County Hospital, and his wife, Dr. Marianna Horn, had their heads shaved Nov. 8 as part of a "Be Brave and Shave" fundraiser to benefit the Children's Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders of Northern Virginia, which is part of Children's National Medical Center.

Eighty firefighters and policemen also participated in the "Be Brave and Shave" event.

The Horns raised more than $20,000 through their online fundraising page (www.firstgiving.com/mmhornteam).

An additional $10,000 was raised Nov. 14 at a Festival of Heroes dinner.

In all, more than $300,000 was raised toward a new regional comprehensive cancer center.
