Recycling update

The Boonsboro Recycling Task Force will feature two presentations at its regular meeting this evening in the Community Center in Shafer Park in Boonsboro. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. and is open to the public.

The GoGreenGals, an area company specializing in finding green products and services for consumers, will give the first presentation. The company encourages living simply and reusing when possible. The presenters will show participants how to "go green" when purchasing needed products and services. For more information, go to

Leslie Hendrickson, Washington County agricultural marketing specialist, will present information on how she can help the task force begin a farmers market in the Boonsboro community, possibly next spring. This past year, there were farmers markets at the Ag Center on Sharpsburg Pike and at the Elks Lodge on Robinwood Drive in Hagerstown. For more information, go to


As part of its outreach and education program, the task force sponsors a variety of programs and events, including the Boonsboro Green Fest ( The second annual Green Fest will be May 8. For more information, call Janeen Solberg, task force chair, at 301-416-2750.

Meetings are held the third Wednesday of the month and are open to the public.

Crafters open house

The Log Cabin Crafters will hold an open house Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.

The event features rug hooking, penny rugs, dolls, pillows, ornaments, pottery, clay necklaces, beaded bookmarks, small antiques, recycled gifts and home decor and primitive woodcrafts. Also, locally made handcrafted soaps and fresh roasted coffee by the pound will be available.

Directions: From Boonsboro, take Md. 34 to Keedysville. Turn left on Keedy Drive. Bear right onto Main Street. Turn left on Mount Hebron Road at the memorial. It will be the third house on the left (look for the Log Cabin Crafters signs.)

Basket bingo

The First Hose Co. of Boonsboro Station 6, at 5 St. Paul St., will host its annual Thanksgiving basket bingo Friday, Nov. 27.

Tickets cost $20. Doors will open at 5 p.m. and the games will begin at 6:30.

Baskets will be filled; extra packs and tip jars will also be available. Refreshments will be sold. No outside food or drinks will be allowed.

Participants are asked to bring a nonperishable or canned food item.

Open house event

A ladies night will be held to benefit the 3-Day Breast Cancer Walk ( on Saturday, Nov. 28, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the McClellan Gun Club in Keedysville.

Family Movie Night

Family Movie Time returns to the Boonsboro Library on Saturday, Nov. 28, at 11:30 a.m. in the community room immediately following story time. The movie "The Polar Express" will be shown. Light refreshments will be served. Register by calling 301-432-5723.

Thanksgiving Day dinner

Boonsboro Bible Church will continue its annual tradition of serving a community Thanksgiving Dinner on Thanksgiving Day from noon to 4 p.m. The event is free and open to all. Deliveries to local shut-ins are available.
