Virginia May Rogers, 95, of 351 Key Ave. and formerly of 718 W. Franklin St., Hagerstown, went to be with her loving Lord on Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Jan. 24, 1914, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Crist Preston Mertz Sr. and Flora May Dunn Mertz.

She and her husband, Alvin F. (Jack) Rogers Sr., were married July 5, 1930. He preceded her in death March 4, 1995.


She was a homemaker and a loving, faithful member for 86 years at Grace United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school for 42 years, was a member of the Temple Builders Sunday School Class and the Golden Membership Club.

She was an avid Orioles fan, and enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by a daughter, Betty Jane Tedrick and husband, Prather "Buck," of Hagerstown; a son, Alvin F. "Jack" Rogers Jr. and wife, Marie, of Hagerstown; two grandsons, Brian E. Tedrick and wife, Cindy, and Jeffrey L. Rogers and wife, Sherry, all of Hagerstown; two granddaughters, Carol L. Tedrick of Hagerstown and Cindy L. Tedrick of Reisterstown, Md.; a great-grandson, Matthew Tedrick and wife, Lorie, of Hagerstown; great-granddaughter, Jennifer L. Tedrick and fiance, Justin Weaver, of Hagerstown; great-great-granddaughter, Kaylee N. Weaver of Hagerstown; one brother, Howard Mertz of Westminster, Md.; and several nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Harrison Mertz and Crist "Bud" Mertz.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home with the Rev. Clark D. Carr officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
