Two WCPS employees receive Golden Apple Awards



Two Washington County Public Schools employees on Tuesday received the Golden Apple Award during a Washington County Board of Education meeting.

The recipients were Kathy Edgel, a paraprofessional at Smithsburg Midddle School, and Bob Snyder, a custodian at Paramount Elementary School.

The Golden Apple Award is given for outstanding performance.

School Board awards contract to construct building at Boonsboro High School



The Washington County Board of Education on Tuesday awarded a $155,389 contract to Cronise Corp. of Boonsboro to construct a building that will house two locker rooms at Boonsboro High School.

Boyd Michael, deputy superintendent of Washington County Public Schools, said the Boonsboro High School Athletic Boosters Club will pay about $45,000 of the cost.

The locker rooms will be equipped, among other things, with utilities, toilets and a hot water tank.

Nine other companies submitted bids for the project.
