Man rescued after fall from cliff

CASCADE -- Emergency crews on Tuesday rescued a man who fell from High Rock, a popular scenic overlook on Pen Mar High Rock Road.

Emergency crews were dispatched at 2:27 p.m.

The man fell about 15 feet before landing, then slid another 15 feet to the spot where he was found, according to a press release from Smithsburg Emergency Medical Services.

The man was placed on a backboard and lifted to level terrain using a rescue stretcher, according to the release.

Paramedics said his injuries were serious, but that he was conscious and alert, according to the release.

He was taken by ambulance to a medevac helicopter and flown to R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, the release said.
