The Hovises

Paul and Nancy Hovis of Smithsburg celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sept. 13, 2009, at the Elks Lodge, Hagerstown. The surprise dinner party was hosted by their three children, Joni Kline and her husband Jay; Kelly Spigler and her husband John; and Patrick Hovis and his wife Millie.

The Hovises renewed their marriage vows, which was conducted by Dr. Robert E. Jones of Bristol, Va., brother of Mrs. Hovis.

They were married Sept. 12, 1959, by Dr. Dewitt Miller at Hagerstown Church of the Brethren.

Mr. Hovis was employed with Mack Trucks for 40 years and retired in August 2001. Mrs. Hovis is employed part-time at Susquehanna Wealth Strategies in Hagerstown.

The Hovises have eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The Booths

Clyde and Madelin Booth of Big Cove Tannery, Pa., celebrated their 50th anniversary with family on Aug. 23, 2009. The Booths attended a dinner theater performance in Columbia, Md., along with their sons, Mark of Shippensburg, Pa., and Patrick, of McConnellsburg, Pa., and Patrick's wife, Terri, and their three children.


The Booths were also given a vacation at the Sandestin Beach and Resort in Destin, Fla.

Mr. Booth is a retired school administrator. Mrs. Booth was a secretary and homemaker.

They have three grandchildren.

The Pryors

Paul and Connie Pryor of Smithsburg celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary Sunday, Oct. 4, with their children and grandchildren at Hickory Bridge Inn & Restaurant in Fairfield, Pa.

The couple met as teenagers while singing in the church choir at the Hagerstown Grace Brethren Church and were married by the Rev. Robert Collitt, now deceased.

Mr. Pryor worked for the Pete House Farm in Middletown, Md., the Austin Rice Construction Company of Hagerstown, and Roadway Express Inc.

Mrs. Pryor worked for Washington County Hospital, was a homemaker, and worked for Surgical Associates of Waynesboro, Pa.

Their children are son, Dean Pryor and wife Kristin of Hagerstown; and daughter, Tammy Cave and husband Eric of Smithsburg. They have six grandchildren.
