Reward offered in Maryland Theatre vandalism case

November 12, 2009

A $500 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of vandals who caused about $25,000 worth of damage to the Maryland Theatre last month.

Motor oil, adhesive, and cleaning supplies were poured on the theater's roof between 5 p.m. on Oct. 21 and 7 a.m. on Oct. 22, Hagerstown Police Department Sgt. Paul Kifer said Wednesday. A theatre employee discovered the damage on Oct. 22, Kifer said.

Police have been unable to turn up any leads, Kifer said.

The $500 reward is being offered for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in the case, Kifer said.

The vandals are believed to have gained access to the roof by defeating the locking mechanism on a door in the theater, he said.

Anyone with information may contact Hagerstown City Police at 301-790-3700, ext 234, or e-mail information to crimetip@hagerstownpd.org.
