Big Sydney -- In the corner with the good guys

November 12, 2009|By BIG SYDNEY

I dusted off my white coaching hat this week.

For once, going against popular public sentiment, I want everyone to know I want to be considered one of the good guys.

Say what you want about me, but I know which side of my three-foot party sub with extra cheese is buttered.

I'm all Washington County, all the time.

This week, I prepare as my homeboys from Smithsburg and Boonsboro head to BizarroWorld. They are packing up and heading over the mountain to Allegany County.

It's not Pittsburgh going to Denver, but there is something about the air up there.

Curb all that talk about blue states and red states for a while. Those guys have to get weighed in by the Junior League to match up with Washington County vs. Allegany County.

It's the heroes (wearing white) vs. the villains (black-clad of course).

This is Luke Skywalker vs. Darth Vader with someone going to find out who's their daddy.

It's Clarice Starling vs. Hannibal Lecter while running his strange tailgate, featuring liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti.

It's a matchup of Dorothy vs. The Wicked Witch, who takes on everyone and your little dog, too.

It's an unshaken and not stirred James Bond vs. Dr. No.

It's Rocky vs. Ivan Drago, who believes that he must break you.

It's George Bailey, defending Zuzu's petals, vs. Mr. Potter.

It's Snow White, who would have a tough time running with an offensive line consisting of the Seven Dwarfs, vs. The Queen.

It's Spongebob vs. The Sinister Slug (fitting analogy).

It's John McClane yippie-ki-yaying against Hans Gruber.

It is Optimus Prime trying to outconvert Megatron, for goodness sakes.

How big is this good vs. evil theme? To answer this riddle, just check the officials.

Are they wearing black with white stripes or white with black stripes?

Hmm. You just have to wonder.

On with the predictions. Last week 16-3 (.842), season (.700).
