Harriet Doub Long

Harriet Doub Long, 100, passed away Nov. 9, 2009, at Homewood Nursing Center, Williamsport, Md.

Born Sept. 15, 1909, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Harry G. Doub Sr. and M. Delva Bowers Doub.

Harriet was a 1927 graduate of Hagerstown High School and a 1928 graduate of Columbia Business College (Hagerstown).

She was employed by the Washington County treasurer's office for 25 years.

Harriet was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church.

She also was a member of the Washington County Historical Society and the Conococheague Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a past member of the Business and Professional Women's Club, the Washington County Republican Club and the Washington County Elephant Club.

She is survived by her son, M. Kenneth Long Jr. and his wife, Marjorie H. Long, of Hagerstown; two granddaughters, Anson E. Long of Indiana, Pa., and Meredith McC. Long of Owings Mills, Md.; two nieces; and three nephews.


She was preceded in death by her husband, M. Kenneth Long Sr. in 1982; her daughter, Carol Doub Long in 1998; and two brothers, Harry G. Doub Jr., who was killed in World War II and Emmert B. Doub.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home. The Rev. Edward H. Heim will officiate. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service on Friday. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts, P.O. Box 423, Hagerstown, MD 21740-0423 or to Homewood Foundation, 16505 Virginia Ave., Williamsport, MD 21795.
