Spaghetti dinner



Boy Scout Troop 108 of Leitersburg is sponsoring an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner and bake sale on Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Ringgold Ruritan building off Windy Haven Road in Smithsburg. The cost is $7 for adults, $4 for ages 6 to 12, and free for those younger than 6. Dinner includes spaghetti and meatballs, salad, roll, drink and dessert. Carryout available.

Christmas bazaar



The Ladies of the Elks and Associates, Hagerstown Lodge 378 will hold a Christmas bazaar on Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Elks Lodge, 11063 Robinwood Drive, door No. 5.

There will be a pancake and sausage breakfast from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. Lunch will be served from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. featuring homemade soups, sandwiches, doughnuts, sodas and coffee. A baked-goods table will also be available.

Vendors will sell crafts, plants and white elephant items. A raffle drawing will be held at 3 p.m. You need not be present to win. Members and their guests are welcome. All proceeds will benefit local charities.

Custer's last stand



Local author Warren Gray will present new information and evidence regarding the historical mysteries of Custer's last stand Thursday, Nov. 19, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the community room at the Smithsburg Library. Seating is limited, so call 301-824-7722 to register.

Quilting at the library



Veteran quilters Sari Kilheffer and Nancy Brown will work on their craft Thursday and Nov. 19 from 4 to 6 p.m. in front of the fireplace at the Smithsburg Library. They invite adults and children to help them with their quilts or to watch them work. For more information, call 301-824-7722.

Recreation programs



The Washington County Recreation Department offers drop-in programs at Pangborn Elementary School's recreation center. The Special Populations open gym is offered Fridays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. through Dec. 18. The program is for all ages, but participants must be accompanied by support staff or a caregiver.

Today, participants will celebrate Veterans Day by wearing red, white and blue; it is also Parent Visitation Day. Thursday is a PTA fundraiser night at Cici's Pizza from 5 to 8 p.m.

TOPS 462



TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Md. 462, Smithsburg, did not have a good weigh-in last week, showing a net gain for the first time in a couple of weeks.

After roll call, Sandy led a roundtable discussion about what we do better when we are losing. The biggest points that came up were three W's: walking, writing and water.

At this week's meeting, Dale will lead a program about reading labels in the supermarket.

Nicole was welcomed as a new member.

The group meets every Thursday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 51 S. Main St. in Smithsburg. Weigh-in starts at 5:30 p.m. and the meeting is from 6 to 7 p.m. For more information, call Ola at 301-824-7650 or John at 717-749-3023.
