Holiday countdown

Have you started your countdown yet to the holidays? Whether or not you choose to, it would seem it is being done for us. Instead of months, we are now at the weeks portion of the wait. Just around the corner is Thanksgiving, and all the wonderful smells and memories it entails. Then begins the mad race to Christmas. Put your seat belts on and brace yourself for a fun-filled and most joyous part of the year! With all the planning and plotting for the upcoming festivities, we must not forget the events that fill our days and keep our community thriving. Let me fill you in on a few.

South High PTA

The South Hagerstown High School PTA will meet Thursday at 6 p.m. in the media center. Please keep in mind the A+ for students rewards program offered by Martin's. It's so easy top sign up and the rewards fund much- needed programs in the schools.

Canned food drive

With all the abundance that surrounds us, how easy it is to forget those who are needy. The Shape Up Shop on Northern Avenue is holding a food drive for the entire month of November. Bring in canned food to benefit the Washington County Food Bank and receive a coupon good for $5 off a one-month membership.

Pancake breakfasts

Speaking of food, how about a nice pancake breakfast to get your morning started? The Funkstown Volunteer Fire Department is having two pancakes breakfasts in November. The first is Saturday from 7 to 11 a.m. The second is Nov. 28 from 4 to 9 a.m. Why so early? It's called a hunters breakfast and is meant for those early risers ready to hit the mountains.
