Employee of the quarter at health department



Kathy Masser has been named the Washington County Health Department's Employee of the Quarter for the last quarter of 2009.

Masser began work with the Health Department in October 2007 in the Division of Administration and works with the grants and budgets that make up the agency's various funding streams.

She worked administratively in manufacturing, public housing and wholesale food distribution. She brings a varied professional experience that has enabled her to make significant contributions to the health department's internal functions.




Hospital auxiliary education day



Auxiliary members from Washington County Hospital recently gathered at Beaver Creek Country Club for their annual education day. More than 90 volunteers attended to hear about current events and issues related to Washington County Health System.

James P. Hamill, president and CEO of Washington County Health System, was the keynote speaker and presented an update on the health system, including the hospital's clean out week initiative, plans and preparedness for the H1N1 flu, and the health system's newly formed wellness committee. He also gave an update on the status of construction of the new regional medical center and informed the group of the relocation of the Weight Loss Clinic to Professional Court in Hagerstown.

Director of volunteer services, Mitchell Towe, gave a presentation titled, "Everything You Should Know About Volunteering at Washington County Health System." His talk covered essential information regularly conveyed through hospital orientation and mandatory in-services, but also included highlights about often overlooked aspects of volunteerism including the history and philosophy of volunteering, the pervasiveness and importance of volunteerism in the United States, and the c
