November 08, 2009

FREDERICK, Md. -- A traffic control flagman died Thursday when a fellow employee backed his vehicle over him in the area of Buckeystown Pike (Md. 85) and Lime Kiln Road in Frederick, according to a press release from Maryland State Police in Frederick.

Carroll Michael Rehmert, 57, of Brooklyn Park, Md., was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said.

Rehmert had stopped northbound traffic on Buckeystown Pike about 3 p.m. when a commercial vehicle operated by Anthony Wayne Lamburn, 37, of Alum Bank, Pa., was backing up to repair a damaged line, troopers said.

Lamburn backed into Rehmert, who was pulled underneath the rear axle of the vehicle, troopers said. Lamburn then pulled forward out of a state of panic and ran over Rehmert a second time, troopers said.

Rehmert and Lamburn were employed by LAI Construction in Perry Hall, Md., troopers said.

The incident was under investigation, troopers said.
