LITTLESTOWN, Pa. - Catherine "Kate" Winifred Semler Guise, 95, died Tuesday night, Nov. 3, 2009, at the home of her son, Gary R. Guise, and daughter-in-law, Darlene, 675 Littlestown Road, Littlestown, Pa., where she had resided since February 2006.

She was born Sept. 19, 1914, in Hagerstown, Md., the daughter of the late Edward and Winifred Keegan Semler. Her husband of 39 years, Jacob "Ray" Guise, died in 1973.

Mrs. Guise was employed as a seamstress for many years at Gettysburg Shoe Co. and Carroll Shoe Co. of Arendtsville, Pa. She retired in 1972 to care for her husband. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, caring for her houseplants, and spending time with friends and family. She made frequent trips to Kent Island on Maryland's Eastern Shore for crabbing, boating and socializing along the Chesapeake Bay. Her greatest and most recent joy was caring for her first great-grandchild.

In addition to her son and daughter-in-law, she is survived by a grandson, Clifton R. Guise and his wife, Jessica E., of Stewartstown, Pa.; and a 10-month-old great-granddaughter, Eleanor Catherine Guise. Mrs. Guise was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Edward Semler, James Semler, Mary Linebaugh, Lillian Sneckenberger, Clara Semler and Marion "Buck" Semler; and a stepson, Merle Guise.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Nov. 10, at 11 a.m. from Monahan Funeral Home, 125 Carlisle St., Gettysburg, Pa. with Fr. Jonathan Sawicki officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Gettysburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
