Butchering demonstration at ag center

November 04, 2009

An old-fashioned butchering demonstration will begin at 7 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, at the Washington County Rural Heritage Museum at the Washington County Agricultural Education Center, south of Hagerstown.

The butchering will last until the entire process is completed.

The demonstration will be at the homestead behind the Rural Heritage Museum, and will be held rain or shine. Participants are asked to wear appropriate clothing for the weather. There will be picnic tables for seating, and participants can bring their own chairs.

The demonstration includes cutting and portioning pork, making of sausage, pon haus, lard, and puddin. There will be no meat available for sale.

The Rural Heritage Cabins will also be open and will have volunteers inside to talk about life in the 1800s.

Apple dumplings and apple cider will be for sale.
