Grace gets win, tie at Christian nationals

DAYTON, Tenn. -- Grace Academy went 1-1 in two pool-play games at the National Association of Christian Athletes Tournament on Wednesday.

The Knights earned a 2-0 victory over Shenandoah Valley (Winchester, Va.) before playing Veritas Christian (Asheville, N.C.) to a 2-2 draw.

In the victory over Shenandoah Valley, Luke Bunting had a goal and an assist, Zack Morgan scored and Spencer Horst added an assist for Grace (22-2-1). Kenny Frederickson made six saves for the shutout.

In the tie with Veritas, Pat Salvagno and Sean Koontz each scored, Caleb Serafini and Nick Montoya each had an assist and Frederickson made six saves.

The Knights will play their final pool-play game today against Logos Christian (Illinois) before beginning single-elimination play.

PREP FIELD HOCKEY



Saint James 5, Mercersburg 2

SAINT JAMES -- Meg Steuer and Mary Bacon each scored two goals and Margaret Bacon added a goal as the Saints defeated the Blue Storm.

Sarah Wilson and Liza Rizzo each scored for Mercersburg Academy. Jane Banta made 14 saves.

Hawks place four on All-Maryland JuCo

Hagerstown Community College sophomores Alex Manea, a midfielder, and Chris Lambert, a forward, each earned All-Maryland JuCo Conference first-team honors.

Sophomore defender Joseph Dumpe was selected to the second team, while freshman keeper Rian Kukucka earned honorable mention.

COLLEGE X-COUNTRY



Seven Hawks honored

Hagerstown Community College runners filled five of the seven spots on the All-Maryland JuCo Conference men's cross country team, while two Hawks made the women's team.

Corey Centofonti, Jeremiah Wilt, Wade Miller, Brandon Mauck and Nathan Clark earned honors for HCC's men, while Jaime Wisz and Samantha Valiton were selected to the women's team.

Shepherd 3, Fairmont State 1

FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Shepherd University rallied for a 20-25, 25-19, 25-16, 25-19 win over Fairmont State in the West Virginia Conference.

Amanda Hall had 20 kills, seven digs and six blocks to pace the Rams (18-11, 10-2). Kasey Mercier had 12 kills, nine digs and six aces, while Lauren Jeschelnik added 22 assists.
