Did you know?

Did you know that in days of old stagecoaches frequently traveled the "Old National Road?"

They were brightly painted on the outside and very plush on the inside. They had three seats that comfortably seated nine passengers.

They carried passengers, newspapers and mail and they always stopped in Clear Spring. The baggage was carried on the boot on the stagecoach and was often stolen on dark roads. In 1832, two trunks were stolen from the boot somewhere between Clear Spring and Licking Creek. One trunk, which belonged to an Arkansas traveler, contained $1,100. The robbers were caught in Winchester, Va.
