Boonsboro rallies to trip Fort Hill

CUMBERLAND, Md. -- Erin Eslick, Emily Horst, Amber Smith, Abby Duncan and Jen Sherdel each had a goal as Boonsboro came back from a 1-0 halftime deficit to beat Fort Hill 5-1 in the Maryland Class 1A West quarterfinals Tuesday.

Anna Olszewski, Jess Nicolao and Horst each had an assist and Becky Smith had one save for the Warriors (7-7-1), who outshot Fort Hill (9-5), 16-2.

Northern Garrett 4, Williamsport 1

ACCIDENT, Md. -- Amber Shumaker scored Williamsport's only goal as the Wildcats fell to Northern Garrett in the Maryland 1A West quarterfinals.

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. -- Tiffany Thomas had eight kills and eight aces, while Ariel Munson added 32 assists for Hedgesville in its 25-19, 28-26, 28-26 sweep of Martinsburg in a W.Va. Class AAA Region II Section 1 semifinal.

Kelly Rudy and Danielle Hoffmaster each had seven kills for the Eagles (13-5), who will play for the sectional championship on Thursday.

Musselman 3, Jefferson 0

INWOOD, W.Va. -- Taylor Allen had 14 kills and Emily Funkhouser had 10 kills and six aces as Musselman swept Jefferson, 25-17, 25-7, 25-13, in a W.Va. Class AAA Region II Section 1 first-round match.

Shayla Bartles had seven kills and five aces, Kortney Jenkins added eight aces and Taylor Oates had 25 assists for the Applemen.

Musselman will host Hedgesville at 7 p.m. on Thursday.

Jefferson defeated Washington in five games to earn the right to play Musselman.

North Star 3, McConnellsburg 1

SHANKSVILLE, Pa. -- A'leese Dickerson had 17 kills and 11 digs for McConnellsburg, which suffered a 25-15, 25-15, 20-25, 25-11 loss to top-seeded North Star in the Pa. District 5 Class A semifinals.

Lisa DeShong added 22 assists and 11 digs for the Spartans (13-7), while Emily Watkins tallied 11 digs and five kills and Valerie Green and Courtney DeShong each had 12 digs.


Fox's Orange win Big East

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Syracuse University, coached by former Hagerstown resident Chris Fox, won the men's team title at the recent Big East championships for the first time in school history.

The Orange women, also coached by Fox, placed third -- also their best finish ever.
