November 01, 2009

BARDANE, W.Va. -- An autopsy will be performed this week on the body of a driver badly burned in an accident and car fire on Sunday in the 700 block of Wiltshire Road, West Virginia State Police said in a news release.

Police said a southbound, black Volkswagen car crossed lanes and hit a tree off the eastern edge of the road. The vehicle flipped over and caught fire.

Trooper S.R. Smith arrived at the scene at 3:37 a.m. and discovered the driver was trapped inside, police said. He called for firefighters and emergency medical technicians.

Although police believe the driver was the vehicle's owner, they are withholding the name until an autopsy is performed in Charleston, W.Va.
