Gee whiz! Cadets air it out to top South

HAGERSTOWN -- Frederick shot down South Hagerstown with its aerial attack Friday night for a 41-6 victory at School Stadium.

Cadets senior quarterback Deon Walker completed 14 of 18 passes for 148 yards and four touchdowns for Frederick (4-5).

All four of Walker's TD passes went to standout sophomore wide receiver Jalen Gee, who finished with nine receptions for 108 yards.

Gee's four touchdown grabs set a Frederick single-game record. He also holds the record for career receptions (81) and tied the record for receptions in a season (53).

"He has a great pair of hands," Cadets coach Vince Ahearn said. "West Virginia, Maryland and Rutgers are already looking at him."

Once again, Rebels coach Greg Kellick felt mistakes killed his team.

"It is a story of two different teams," Kellick said. "In the first half, we have been doing what we have been doing all year: Fumbles, turnovers and penalties. In the second half, we decided to play. It has been that way all year. We have had so many turnovers and so many penalties. Little 5-yard penalties can take you out of something that you have."

Kellick hopes South (2-7) is better prepared for next week's city rivalry game with North Hagerstown.

"We have to put this behind us and get ready for next week," Kellick said. "We have to make sure that we don't beat ourselves next week. I think we have beat ourselves too often this year."

Frederick got on the scoreboard with 4:41 remaining in the first quarter when Andrew Hartman scored on a 1-yard run. Juan Bonilla missed the extra point, but made his other five attempts later in the game.

Walker threw three of his four touchdown passes to Gee during the second quarter, covering 1, 33 and 11 yards. Hartman added another 1-yard TD run as the Cadets raised their lead to 34-0 with 1:01 left in the half.

Five seconds before halftime, the Rebels got their only score of the game on a 13-yard touchdown pass from Hunter Phillips to Nick Stubbs.

Frederick scored for the last time during the third quarter on an 8-yard TD pass from Walker to Gee.

"The progress has been awesome," Ahearn said. "We are a very young team. We start six sophomores. That is why that it has taken us a while to get things going. It has been a difficult season. Through all of the adversity, the kids have continued to work hard."
