Broadfording wins a pair of Christian state titles

LANHAM, Md. -- Broadfording Christian Academy won the Maryland Christian State Tournament for the third straight year Saturday.

In pool play, Broadfording swept Grace Academy 25-9, 25-21 and Grace Christian Academy, 25-4, 25-8.

In the semifinals, Broadfording swept Heritage Academy. 25-18, 25-11. In the final, the Lions defeated Salisbury Christian 27-25, 25-20, 22-25, 25-18.

Rebecca Adams had 85 assists and 13 aces, Danielle DuBois had 35 digs and nine aces, Charlotte Worsfold had 23 kills and Hannah Young had 36 kills, and 29 digs for Broadfording. DuBois won tournament MVP honors for the second straight year, and Worsfold and Young were named to the all-tournament team.


Broadfording 1, Holy Grove 0

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Gabe Hirsch scored in the fourth minute of the second overtime to give Broadfording its second Maryland Christian State Tournament championship in two years with a victory over Holy Grove in the final.


Stephen Torres had the assist for the Lions (18-4). Donnie Fritz recorded six saves to secure the shutout. Broadfording did not give up a goal in its three state tournament games.

Hirsch was named the most outstanding player of the tournament. Stephen Torres, Michael Torres and Fritz were named to the all tournament team.
