SHARPSBURG, Md. - Eileen A. Whisner Wastler, 85, of Hagerstown, and formerly of Sharpsburg, died Friday, Oct. 30, 2009, at Coffman Nursing Home in Hagerstown.

Born Nov. 19, 1923, in Sharpsburg, Eileen was the daughter of the late Eugene Theodore and Mary Crampton Whisner.

She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Leroy Edwin Wastler, in 1994.

She is survived by one brother, Richard T. Whisner; one nephew, Richard T. Whisner Jr.; two nieces, Karen Brockway and Ann Whisner; one stepson, Vernon Wastler; one stepdaughter, Karen Stockslager; three great-nephews; one great-great-nephew; one great-great-niece; and two stepgranddaughters.

Eileen was a graduate of Boonsboro High School, Shepherd College and Duke University.

Eileen taught for 31 years in Washington County Public Schools. She served at Woodland Way Junior High School and North Potomac Middle School and as a teacher on closed circuit television.


Eileen was a member of the Washington County and Maryland State Retired Teachers Associations and also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority International. She served on the auxiliary of Fahrney-Keedy Memorial Home.

Eileen was a member of Manor Church of the Brethren in Boonsboro. She taught Sunday school classes for more than 50 years to various age groups in a number of congregations.

The family will receive friends Sunday Nov. 1, 2009, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport. The funeral home will be open Sunday after 1 p.m. for the convenience of family and friends.

Graveside services will be Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Mountain View Cemetery, Sharpsburg, with Pastor Joy Zepp officiating.
