ONA, W.Va. -- Jefferson's girls won the West Virginia Class AAA cross country title, edging University 73-80 at the state championships at Cabell Midland High School.
In the Class AAA boys race, the Cougars' Brandon Doughty finished in 16 minutes, 32 seconds to win the title by 19 seconds over Morgantown's Cody Pelliccioni.
Jefferson's boys finished second to Cabell Midland, which ran away with 37 points. The Cougars scored 82.
Jefferson placed three runners in the top nine in the girls race. Andrea Nickerson was sixth in 19:54, Alyssa Boucher was eighth in 20:03 and Lindsey Hash was ninth in 20:03.
Musselman's Austin Rigsby placed 10th in the Class AAA boys race in 17:25.
In Class AA-A, Berkeley Springs finished second in the boys team standings with 98 points -- Grafton won the title with 57.
