Gladden leads 'Dogs to win over Applemen

INWOOD, W.Va. -- David Gladden ran for a game-high 97 yards on 12 carries -- including touchdown runs of 36, 19 and 2 yards -- as Martinsburg finished its regular season with a 28-14 victory over Musselman on Friday night.

The Bulldogs (8-2) took a 21-14 lead in the fourth quarter on Gladden's final TD run of the game. Brandon Bishop scored the game's final touchdown on a 75-yard interception return.

Vicente Hernandez scored on a 25-yard interception return in the second quarter as Musselman tied the game at 7. The Applemen (4-5) tied it at 14 in the fourth on Jesse Hanes' 24-yard TD run.

Hanes finished with 69 yards rushing on 14 carries.

The Bulldogs outgained Musselman 211-118 in total yards.

Alex Schonhans was Martinsburg's leading passer, going 7-for-14 for 118 yards. David Hammond had eight catches for 129 yards for the Bulldogs.

Chambersburg 20, Carlisle 18

CARLISLE, Pa. -- Chambersburg overcame a 12-0 deficit, scoring 20 unanswered points in the second quarter to beat Carlisle (2-7).

ConRoy Smith had a 25-yard touchdown run for the Trojans' first score. Brian Reese followed with a 3-yard TD run and a 9-yard TD pass to Tyler Fore for Chambersburg (5-4).

MERCERSBURG, Pa. -- Thomas Quivers threw a 76-yard TD pass to Tyson Keith in the third quarter and a 4-yard TD pass to Kace Worrell in the fourth as James Buchanan nearly came back from a 21-7 halftime deficit against Mechanicsburg.

The Rockets (1-7) took a 7-0 lead early in the second quarter on an 11-yard TD run by Worrell.

James Rusenko then took over for Mechanicsburg (5-4), throwing three TD passes before halftime.

SAINT JAMES -- Suzie McKelbey scored the only goal for the Saints (3-6-3), while Rachel Herrera made 24 saves in the loss to Saint Andrews.

THE PLAINS, Va. -- Hannah Itell and Meg Steuer each had a goal and Megan McFillen had five saves as Saint James (5-5) won its fourth straight game.

WOMEN'S SOCCER

Shepherd 9, Salem International 0

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Megan Graf scored a pair of goals and assisted on two more, while Ashley Bryant and Erin Quinn each had two goals to lead Shepherd to a WVIAC win over Salem International (0-11, 0-9).

Clara McGonigle had a goal and two assists for the Rams (5-12-2, 3-6-1), while Sydnie Major had a goal and an assist, Rachel Dewberry had a goal, Danielle Koczera had two assists and Whitney Reed added an assist.

Lauren Vetock and Tessa Jones combined on the shutout in goal for the Rams.

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL

Shepherd 3, Charleston 0

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Shepherd handed Charleston a 25-21, 25-22, 25-22 defeat in WVIAC action.

Kasey Mercier had 14 kills and 13 digs to lead the Rams (17-11, 9-2), while Amanda Hall had 11 kills and four blocks, Jane Thompson had 23 assists and Julie Robertson had 10 digs.

Chantel Hebron had 13 kills to lead Charleston (18-11, 7-4).
