Mummers Parade planned rain or shine

October 30, 2009

The 85th annual Alsatia Mummers Parade is set to begin today at 6 p.m., rain or shine.

Mummers, floats, bands and more will move along the 1.9-mile parade route, down Potomac Street from Oak Hill Avenue to Wilson Boulevard.

City officials will begin making parking off limits as early as 11 a.m. today, with Potomac Street and other major streets in and around the parade route in the first wave of no-parking restrictions. Around 4 p.m., the no-parking restriction will be widened to include other streets.

Vehicles parked in the restricted areas will be towed at owners' expense.

Street closings and traffic detours go into effect at 4:30 p.m. Police are warning motorists to expect delays as a result.
