Theodore J. "Ted" Hammersla, 74, of Hagerstown, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, at his home.

Born Oct. 25, 1935, in Cavetown, he was the son of the late Russell Edward and Helen Clementine (Daly) Hammersla.

He was a veteran of the U.S. National Guard, U.S. Army and the U.S. Army Reserves.

Memberships include BPOE 378 and National AARP.

He retired as a aircraft and automobile painter and had worked for Fairchild Aircraft, Brandt Cabinet Works, Massey Ford, Sharrett and Hamilton Pontiac/Cadillac/Datsun.

Ted was preceded in death by his wife, Dixie Lee Hammersla, who passed away on Dec. 4, 2006.

He is survived by two sons, Guy G. Hammersla and John R. Hammersla, and a daughter, Miranda Toston, all of Hagerstown; two brothers, Jack Lewis Hammersla of Smithsburg and Donald Joseph Hammersla of Sharpsburg; and four grandchildren, Nicholas, Aleaha and Frances Hammersla and Cyrus Tosten.


Also preceding him in death were sisters, Rose M. Cline, Mary J. Stevensen and Patricia A. Munson, and brothers, George, Robert and Charles Hammersla.

Graveside services will be conducted on Friday, Oct. 30, 2009 at noon in Rose Hill Cemetery, 600 S. Potomac St., Hagerstown, with Pastor Rick Remmers officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the Maryland State Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742.

Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, Hagerstown, is in charge of the arrangements.
